Australian goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak is confident Borussia Dortmund can create more history in their record-breaking season.
Dortmund clinched their second straight Bundesliga title on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat of Borussia Moenchengladbach that left them eight points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich with two games remaining.
The German league triumph is Langerak s second in as many seasons with Dortmund, having joined the champions from Australian side Melbourne Victory in 2010.
With 75 points to date, Dortmund, who are undefeated in the Bundesliga since September, can surpass the mark of 79 in a single German league season set by Bayern in both 1971/72 and 1972/73.
Last year when we won the Bundesliga, we won it by seven points and that was an unbelievable season, Langerak told Sportal.com.au.
We ve already equalled the same amount of points as we had last season, with a couple of games to spare.
It just shows the quality of the team at the moment.
We ve got the chance to break the record for most points in a season and that s what we re going for in the next two games.
The atmosphere in the camp is full of confidence and full of hope.
Dortmund have gone 26 league matches without tasting defeat, extending the record for the longest unbeaten streak in a single German league season.
With league games against bottom club Kaiserslautern away and Freiburg at home to come, Langerak remains hopeful of adding to his one Bundesliga appearance this season.
The 23-year-old replaced the injured Roman Weidenfeller in goal in Dortmund s 5-1 victory over Hamburg in January.
If I get the chance to play that would be amazing, but I m not expecting anything, Langerak said.
We ll just see how things go and see how the week pans out.
It s a professional sport, so obviously the coach is going to put out what he thinks is his strongest 11 in both games.
I m hopeful, but I think the strongest 11 will go for the most points in a season record.
Weidenfeller has conceded just 21 goals from his 33 starts this season.
Following their final two league games, Dortmund will face Bayern in the German Cup final at Berlin s Olympic Stadium on May 12.
Almost 500,000 Dortmund fans applied for tickets in Berlin, Langerak said.
It s going to be a massive final. If we can win that and clinch the double it will cap off an amazing season.
With three games inside 11 days scheduled for June, a national team call-up could beckon for Langerak, who was part of the Australia squad which edged out Germany 2-1 in a friendly last year.
The Socceroos play Denmark in a friendly in Copenhagen before travelling to Muscat to face Oman in a World Cup qualifier.
Australia will then host Asian rivals Japan in Brisbane in another World Cup qualifier.
For me, being involved with the Socceroos is something I always think about, it s something that I always want to do, Langerak said.
If I get the chance to be selected for the Socceroos, that s amazing and I would be very honoured to be involved with that.
But at the moment I just have to wait and keep doing all I can here in Dortmund and if I get the chance to be involved that would be the cherry on top of a good season.
